God’s Plan Session 4: How Can I Help Others Discover God’s Plan?

Read John 1:35-42.

Again the next day, John was standing with two of his disciples. When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look! The Lamb of God!” The two disciples heard him say this and followed Jesus. When Jesus turned and noticed them following Him, He asked them, “What are you looking for?” They said to Him, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are You staying?” “Come and you’ll see,” He replied. So they went and saw where He was staying, and they stayed with Him that day. It was about 10 in the morning. Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard John and followed Him. He first found his own brother Simon and told him, “We have found the Messiah!” (which means “Anointed One”), and he brought Simon to Jesus.

What did Andrew do before He followed Jesus to where He was staying? He went to tell his brother! The people had been waiting for the Messiah for hundreds of years. They knew the Scripture and had heard the prophets’ words, foretelling the arrival of a Savior, a King. Finally, He was here. Andrew couldn’t keep the good news to himself.

Session 4 answers the question, “How can I help others discover God’s plan?” Helping others discover God’s plan involves helping other discover God. Be prepared this week to equip preteens to share their faith with others. If a preteen is a Christian, encourage him to write out his testimony. (A simple format to use is: what I was like before I met Jesus, how/when I met Jesus, what Jesus means to me today.) Preteens can use “The ABCs of Becoming a Christian” to share their faith with their friends, but make sure they know why a person would want to become a Christian by clearly explaining the good news—the gospel.
